There are eight ways most of our students finance their courses. Read about each of them then give us a call. Part of our job is to help you get financing.

  1. Students Loans
  2. Bank Loans/Student Line of Credit
  3. Government Training Funds
  4. Band Funding for First Nations
  5. Corporate Sponsorship
  6. Credit or Debit Card
  7. School Financing
  8. Personal Loans
Student Loans
This is a very popular way to fund your studies. You receive an excellent interest rate and do not have to start making payments until 6 months after graduation. You may also be entitled to grant money. Application forms are available at the school and we will be happy to answer any questions for you regarding your application. As a private school, you will be required to submit an Appendix 3, which is filled out by the school along with your application.

Visit the website:

Bank Loans/Student Line of Credit
Most major banks offer loans for educational purposes. Once again you receive a preferred interest rate. You do however have to make interest payments each month until after you graduate.

Government Training Funds
If you have been on Employment Insurance in the past three years, you can meet with a consultant at the HRDC office and be referred to different funding opportunities sponsored by EI.

There is also a program available that gives employers funds to pay for additional training for new employees. Check this out with your local Government Office.

Band Funding for First Nations
Many Bands have funding for training purposes. You usually have to request an application from them and plan well in advance. If they do not have any funds left for the year, they may consider providing you with living expenses if you pay for your own education (via student loans or other arrangements). Each Band may handle this differently, so it is best to check with them directly.

Corporate Sponsorship
Many organizations are more than willing to pay for employee education if it is to the benefit of the company. Check into your company's policy in this matter.

Credit or Debit Card
Academy of Learning, Swift Current accepts major credit cards for payment of their courses. You may also use your Debit Card.

School Financing
Academy of Learning, offers you the opportunity to pay one half of your tuition upon registration for Diploma and Certificate programs and the balance half way through your program. You may also pay one course at a time as you take them.

Personal Loans
You might be surprised by the number of relatives you have who will help finance your education, if they see you have made a sound decision on a specific career and made all the necessary arrangements to help make it happen.

Attendance

Students are contracted to attendance obligations that depend on their funding sources and schedules. Failure to attend in accordance with contracted hours of instruction per week may result in withdrawal from the program. Attendance records may be subject to scrutiny by sponsoring agencies and are maintained by the college as prescribed. Students may choose their hours of attendance, subject to workstation availability, and at the discretion of the college.

Books and Supplies

Academy of Learning’s Integrated Learning™ System programs are presented using course workbooks, audio instruction, and original software. All courses are presented as complete packages with all of the necessary materials included. There are no additional costs. All materials presented to students are protected by relevant Copyright Laws.

Certificate / Diplomas

A Certificate or Diploma is issued to each student who successfully completes a course and meets their financial obligations to the college. Certificates and Diplomas are issued by Academy of Learning’s head office.

Credit for Previous Training / Challenge Exams

Credit for previous education and training may be awarded to students. Students can challenge exams or the school can evaluate previous training from information presented by the student. If it is determined that the applicant has acceptable levels of proficiency in specific skill areas the credit will be awarded.

Dress Code

Academy of Learning colleges do not follow a strict dress code, however, attire should be modest. Students may be asked to dress as they would for a job interview on specific days during their job search courses. As a courtesy to others who may have extreme allergies, students are asked not to use strongly scented products prior to coming to the college.

Facilitators

The Academy of Learning employs qualified individuals to facilitate the training of students. Facilitators take training programs in course content provided by the Academy of Learning and must score over 90% on each exam.

Fees

Courses are presented with all of the necessary materials included. Fees are charged on a per course basis in accordance with established prices. The total tuition fees are due and payable by the start date unless specific arrangements have been made with the college and recorded on a student’s contract. If the student is being sponsored, the college requires a letter of authorization. Academic credit is not given until all financial obligations have been met. All fees are payable to the Academy of Learning in the form of cheque, Visa, MasterCard, or cash. Funding can be provided by Canada/Sask Student Loans, WCB, CASS, HRDC, etc. Payment arrangements will be made per the funding agency requirements.

Foreign Students

Foreign students who are not Canadian Citizens or permanent residents must obtain “student authorization” from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Passing Mark

Individual exams must be taken for one course before proceeding to the next, and require a minimum percentage pass mark prescribed by the Academy of Learning. To graduate, students must pass all courses in their program of study with a minimum of 75%. Students achieving an average of 90% and higher will receive Honors status. Consult with your Admissions Representative for details. The marking schemes and procedures are governed by strict guidelines set by our National head office.

Privacy

The Academy will limit the collection, use and disclosure of students’ personal information to the extent required to conduct business and to provide on-going services to them. This information is confidential and is only issued to a third party with students’ written authorization or where students are funded by a government or sponsoring agency.

Refresher Privileges

Graduates are welcome to come in after completion of their courses to refresh and review their course material, as long as they have already passed the course and the Academy of Learning still teaches the same version.

Satisfactory Progress

Students are all issued a program outline that includes target dates for starting and ending each course. These dates must be adhered to as closely as possible in order for students to complete their courses by the prescribed end dates. Should students fall behind, they are expected to put in extra time to maintain satisfactory progress.

Students receiving funding will have no leeway in this - if satisfactory progress and course load is not being maintained, it could result in withdrawal. Courses not completed by the end date will not qualify for refunds or transfers. In the event that completion by end date is not feasible, the end date may be extended but only with the permission of sponsoring agencies and the College Director.

In order to receive a credential, students must achieve a minimum passing mark of 75%. Regular feedback from college staff ensures students can monitor their progress, and if applicable, may implement initiatives to ensure academic success.

Students with Special Needs

Our philosophy is that everyone should have the right and opportunity to improve their life through better employment. Academy of Learning’s innovative method of individualized instruction coupled with its flexible scheduling allows students with special needs access to all the benefits of our unique learning method. We can accommodate physically challenged students. Written transcripts of courses may be available when audio material is insufficient for student needs.

Tax Receipts

Tuition fees qualify for a federal tax credit. Students may also be entitled to an educational status credit based on their attendance. Students are requested to talk to college staff or to their tax consultant if they require any additional information. In order to claim this tax credit, an official receipt is issued by the colleges at the appropriate time.

Transfer Policy

Students must complete their program of study at the college identified on their contract. If a student wishes to transfer to another Academy of Learning college, they must request this in writing from their originating college well in advance. Transfers will only be considered if the student is in good standing and is at the sole discretion of the College Director. The Academy of Learning cannot guarantee that a transfer will be made. This policy is subject to approval from the student’s funding agency and space availability at the college to which the student wants to transfer. Enrolment contracts are not transferable from one student to another.
